The WWW wristwatches are the most popular and collectable of all those issued to the British Army, perhaps because they were the first military watches to be designed and manufactured to the M.O.D's requested specification. WWW stands for Watch, Wrist, Waterproof and was the code used by the British Army to identify it as a piece of military equipment. These watches began manufacture and issue in early 1945. There were 12 Swiss manufacturers of the WWW watches, and as such, the collection is commonly referred to by collectors and dealers alike as “The Dirty Dozen”. This example is in excellent condition, all original, with the exception of the plexi crystal, which looks too clean to be 80 years old. Steel shows light/normal wear and use by way of light scratches to the bezel and a few deeper scratches to the back. The lume looks original, and the dial has not been repainted. It is keeping excellent time, gaining maybe 1 minute a day, depending on activity. Only around 20,000 Cyma WWW watches were made for the British Army during WW2. Supplied on new canvas miliraty strap.
